Instructors Code of Conduct

The Instructors code of conduct, necessitates that every instructor preserve, and reveal the true time-honored spirit of Budo always, therefore to amplify to others their traditional martial art honor and etiquette.

• - Embody humility in your actions and avoid insincerity.
• - Show genuine respect and courtesy in all interactions.
• - Uphold integrity and demonstrate respect in every circumstance.
• - Remain loyal to your sensei and the traditions of your Ryu.
• - Honor your sensei and avoid any actions that may bring them disrepute.
• - Ensure the safety of your students and nurture their self-respect.
• - Adhere to and respect the principles, ethics, and traditions of budo.
• - Pursue true understanding, refine your character, and seek harmony of mind and spirit.
• - Treat practitioners of other budo forms with genuine respect.
• - Learn from past mistakes, correct them, and continue to grow.
• - Develop your skills with humility and respect for others.
• - Honor your traditional budo lineage and its teachings.
• - Educate and lead with purpose, always demonstrating heart and spirit (Kokoro).
• - Uphold the principles of truth and commit to being truthful at all times.

All National Martial Arts Association instructors will not tolerate the use of narcotics or performance-enhancing drugs by instructors or students and will support students efforts to be drug-free. All instructors refrain from tobacco and alcohol use while they are instructing.

All National Martial Arts Association members will ensure that any physical contact with a student is appropriate to the situation and necessary for their skill development and instructors will provide a safe and healthy environment for training.

All National Martial Arts Association instructors and members have an obligation to be familiar with this Code of Conduct. Lack of awareness or misunderstanding of an ethical standard is not itself a defense to a charge of unethical conduct.
